WHAT IS THE CR-MRC’S MISSION?
Our primary mission is to provide medical and non-medical support to local or regional response teams during emergencies such as at Points of Dispensing (PODs) and emergency shelters. We also augment local first responder medical aid stations and support local activities that promote community resilience during “blue skies” times.
Is there a cost to join?
No.
IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT TO SERVE IN THE CR-MRC?
CR-MRC volunteers must be 18 years or older.
DO I NEED TO BE A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL TO SERVE WITH THE CR-MRC?
Many of our volunteers are non-medical! It takes a team of people with diverse skillsets and experience to fulfill our missions.
I’M A RETIRED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. DO I NEED TO RETAIN MY PROFESSIONAL LICENSE IN CT IN ORDER TO SERVE?
If you want to be assigned a role as a medical volunteer, you must have an active and in good standing CT license and report the expiration date in your CT Responds profile. If your license is no longer active, you may only serve in non-medical volunteer roles.
DO CR-MRC VOLUNTEERS SERVE IN DISASTER RESPONSE OUTSIDE OF THE GREATER HARTFORD REGION?
CR-MRC volunteers primarily serve the region of 41 towns and on occasion other Connecticut towns. We do not deploy outside of Connecticut.
Is there liability protection when I serve?
Liability protection is provided to MRC volunteers who:
-complete their profile in CT Responds
-have taken the Loyalty Oath within the past two years
-have completed CR-MRC Orientation
-sign in and out on the CR-MRC Sign in Sheet.
Is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided?
Yes, as indicated by the mission requirements and in accordance with standard guidelines.

HOW DO I JOIN THE CAPITOL REGION MRC?
Visit https://ctresponds.ct.gov/ and select the Capitol Region MRC unit.
Completing your CT Responds application profile as much as possible expedites the review process.
WHEN DOES THE CAPITOL REGION MRC MEET?
We meet virtually or in-person monthly (except August) on the first Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. Because our members live across the region, we use several locations for our in-person meetings.
IS THERE AN ORIENTATION FOR NEW MEMBERS?
Yes, attending our Orientation is recommended before serving as a volunteer. We typically offer Orientation virtually at least once a quarter.
Do you provide CPR training?
Yes, as funds permit, the CR-MRC Training Academy offers free Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid training periodically.
IS TRAINING PROVIDED? IS IT IN-PERSON OR ONLINE?
Training is provided in a variety of formats. We provide in-person training at each monthly meeting and ad hoc depending on our response needs and partner organization training schedules. There is a free website available with a wide range of relevant online training.
HOW DO I GET ASSIGNED TO A VOLUNTEER MISSION?
All volunteer assignments are managed through the CT Responds system. If you indicate in your CT Responds profile that you are available for a specific mission and the Unit Director assigns you to the mission, you will receive further instructions via email. Please do not self deploy.
